Research & Creative Activities Grants for Students

Western Funding Opportunities for Graduate and Undergraduate Students

Students participating in Scholars Week

Overview

RSP offers grants to Graduate and Undergraduate students working with a faculty mentor to engage in independent scholarly research, scientific inquiry, new technology development and artistic/creative activity.  Previous awards have supported field work, artistic projects and performances, scientific research, the development of written works, and many other innovative projects. Applications are accepted once each quarter (consult the RSP Calendar for upcoming deadlines), and the review process is competitive, so you should work closely with your faculty mentor in planning and preparing your application.

Graduate Student Grants

Graduate student research awards assist students in accomplishing the research/scholarly/creative work required by their degree program. Up to $1500 per project may be requested. Requests should be relevant to the student's research/scholarly/creative work and which are not already available to the applicant through their academic department or college. Any equipment acquired using award funds remains University property. The RCA Council makes funding recommendations to the Vice Provost for Research.

Eligibility: Program is open to any registered graduate student in good standing. Preference will be given to new applicants. This program supports both individual and collaborative (team) proposals.

Award Level: Up to $1500 per grant.

Award duration: 12 months from the date on the award letter.

Application deadlines: Applications are accepted during Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters.  Consult the RSP Calendar for upcoming deadlines.  Be sure to allow plenty of time for your project faculty mentor to review and approve your application before the deadline.

How to Apply: Detailed instructions and guidelines are provided in the Graduate Call for Proposals.  Applications are submitted via an electronic form available here.
