Information for researchers on Coronavirus-related operational impacts
RSP staff are presently working remotely, while continuing to provide all customary services. Phone lines are being checked every 20-30 min and calls returned as soon as possible.
Research Travel. Travel for official university business remains restricted, however travel for research purposes (field work, conference attendance, performances, meetings with collaborators, etc.) may be allowable with prior authorization under Level 3 operating conditions if a comparable remote option is unavailable. Exceptions to University travel restrictions are considered automatically when the travel request is submitted using Western's online travel system, Concur. Domestic travel requests are reviewed by your dean, international travel by the Provost's Office, and grant-funded travel (domestic or international) by RSP. The Concur system automates approval routing, a separate request is not required. (4-28-2021)

Western Washington University's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) supports Western's nationally-recognized research, scholarly, and creative communities through a variety of internal funding programs and by providing guidance and resources for proposal development, submission, post-award management and compliance.
We provide assistance with concept development and identification of funding opportunities, coordinate pre‐award activities including proposal preparation and contract negotiation, handle all external proposal submissions, and manage intellectual property development for the university. RSP also establishes policies related to sponsored program funding, compliance, and serves as the formal institutional liaison with sponsors.
We provide guidance and education to the research community in the effective administration of research compliance related to human subjects research, animal research, responsible conduct of research, and financial conflict of research. We interpret federal regulations to develop and implement policies to assist researchers to stay in compliance and maintain the highest level of ethical research. Throughout this process, RSP fosters a relationship of shared governance promoting responsibility for the conduct of ethical research.
